The band were on the brink of breaking apart, Steve Adler was unable to perform due to his cocaine and heroin addiction and manager Alan Niven was fired, with Axl refusing to complete the album until he was left. Bother were replaced by former Cult drummer Matt Sorem and Doug Goldstein. Rose attributes the saving of the band to recruitment of Sorem. What to follow was spectacular with enough material for two albums, Guns N Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. They debuted at number 1 and 2 in the Billboard chart the only ever band to do so. Not mention incredible singles such as November Rain, Don’t Cry and Estranged, Use Your Illusion II was more political with tracks like Civil War, Knockin On Heaven’s Door and Get in the Ring.
