Vampire Weekend T Shirts

The Vampire Weekend T Shirts Collection at T Shirt Subway.

Vampire Weekend are the American indie rockers that formed in 2006 from New York City. They are Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio.

They met while in Columbia University, sharing an admiration for African and punk music, although it was rap collaborations between Koenig and Tomson that started things off. Koenig had been on tour with The Dirty Projectors when experimenting with African music, and maintained an interest leading to the band incorporating global multicultural elements into their early writing.

The band were considering calling themselves Weekend, but decided to throw in the word Vampire as they thought it would stand out and help create a more unique image, especially on the internet. The full name was taken from the title of a short film project by Koenig. In fact, the multi-talented members self-produced their self titled album Vampire Weekend (released 2008) while in full time employment, Koenig a middle school teacher of English and Tomson a music archivist.

Their debut album produced successful singles A-Punk, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, Mansard Roof and Oxford Comma. They followed this with the album Contra.

It was Koening's foresight about internet image that paid off in massive ways as by the time their debut album had hit the stores they had already built a massive following due to internet exposure, and they had even managed to perform three tours. Spin magazine voted them the Best New Band in 2008 and they became the first band to be shot for the album cover before the release of their debut album.
