Velvet Underground T Shirts

The Velvet Underground T Shirts Collection at T Shirt Subway.

Arguably one of the most important bands most people haven't heard of are the incredible Velvet Underground and this is the velver Underground t shirts collection. Velvet Underground are the American rock band that formed in New York City in 1964. Their debut album The Velvet Underground & Nico (the German singer with whom they collaborated) was named by Rolling Stone as the 13th Greatest Album of All Time and labelled "the most prophetic rock album ever made".

They featured at number 19 in the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.

The band did not gain much commercial success, but their work has been described as "musicians music". A famous comment was that "The first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band". Many established musicians and critics viewed them as one of the most important and influential groups of the 60s and perhaps this is why there are so many Velvet Underground t shirts on show despite them being worn years later.

Despite not having much commercial success while together, many went on to form successful careers, with Lou Reed and John Cale going on to be successful solo artistsbut everything started here.

White Light/White and Beyond for The Velvet Underground

Whilst their first album is widely loved and acclaimed now the band didn’t see that at the time and their relationship with Andy Warhol disintegrated soon after and it led them to create the album White Light/White Heat and it is now possibly regarded as the first punk album ever. You simply couldn’t have had this album being created by anybody but Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground as only New York had such a blend of musical tastes to mix in with their special talent for exploring new boundaries.

The sound that came out was too much for Tom Wilson who could no longer bear the sound that was coming out with each track almost playing to a crescendo of noise with them each battling to be heard over the other but that was the beauty about it. It is now legendary because it is one of few albums ever made recorded in just a couple of days with barely any recording material at all but just in a garage but it was that frantic pace and screeching sound that possibly gave birth to the first punk album ever and it actually works.

Here at the Velvet Underground t shirts collection we have to pay tribute to any band whose first two albums get voted firstly as one of the most progressive rock albums of all time and secondly as possibly the one album that gave birth to what we now know as punk rock. The band was pioneers and led by what was simply a genius in Lou Reed.
